    Reg Meuross +The Snapes

Reg Meuross is an extraordinary songwriter as well as being a fine singer and guitarist. He writes love songs and story songs and although they are all modern, they all come firmly from the folk tradition. Unlike a lot of singer/songwriters Reg has the personality and repertoire to hold an audience effortlessly for a full evening of entertainment.

Peter and Barbara Snape are popular singers with a mixture of traditional songs from Northwest England with a good selection of music hall songs as well.

Louise works on international archaeological projects. In 2012 she discovered an enormous ancient goldmine, together with the ruins of a temple and a battlefield, in the territory of Sheba, an 8th century BC incense-trading kingdom which spanned modem-day Ethiopia and Yemen. Almost 3000 years ago, the Queen arrived in Jerusalem with treasure to give to King Solomon. She is immortalised both in the Qur'an and the Bible, which describes her visit 'with a very great retinue, with camels bearing spices, and very much gold and precious stones .... .'. The Queen's image inspired medieval Christian mystical works in which she embodied divine wisdom, as well as Turkish and Persian paintings, Handel's oratorio Solomon, and Hollywood films, and her story is still told across Africa and Arabia; allegedly descendants of their child, Menelik, became the kings of Abyssinia. The talk will give a fascinating insight into the progress of the dig at Sheba and the subsequent academic discussion it has provoked in the world of archaeology.

Luke Jackson came to Uxbridge as a support act when he was just starting out on his career. In the three years since then he has developed enormously as a singer, songwriter and guitarist, his career has leaped forward with all sorts of awards even more award nominations and national and International touring opportunities, now with several CDs and an impressive stage presence. It's great to have him back as a genuine headline act.
Lauren Rich is a singer/songwriter who sits on that boundary between folk music and acoustic pop. Her songs are too interesting to be called pop, and her voice has a mature “lived-in” quality.

Three Christmases, three kitchens and three wildly incompatible couples provide the ingredients for this hilarious slice of festive cheer from Alan Ayckbourn.

Absurd Person Singular peeps behind the kitchen door at three Christmas parties revealing hysterical happenings but also the changing fortunes of its party hosts.  There’s the ‘lower class’ but very much up and coming Hopcrofts, in their bright new, gadget filled kitchen, keen to impress with a little party for their bank manager and his wife and an architect neighbour. Then there’s the architect himself and his wife in their neglected, untidy flat with a somewhat wild and aggressive dog! Lastly there’s the bank manager and his wife in their freezing cold, large and slightly modernised, old Victorian style kitchen.

Chaos reigns as social climbing turns into domestic disaster in this agonisingly funny Christmas comedy.

Absurd Person Singular won the Evening Standard Award for Best Comedy when it was first performed and is now seen as an Ayckbourn classic.

    Said the Maiden   +Threaded

Said the Maiden are a trio of hugely talented young women from Hertfordshire now firmly moved up from being a support act into a series of increasingly prestigious headline performances at clubs and festivals. They sing mostly traditional songs in harmony either acapella or with various instrumental accompaniments. Threaded have a most unusual instrumental line up of clarinet, violin and guitar, which creates a very distinctive sound. That combination allows them to deliver very effective tunes as well as providing the backdrop for melodic vocals.

Threaded are a talented young group who perform their own songs with the unusual line-up of violin, guitar and clarinet, all graduates of the prestigious Birmingham Conservatoire.

The cartoonist, Carl Giles, once said that he loved his creation, Grandma Giles, because she allowed him to say through his cartoons what he was too polite to say in person. She helped him to poke fun at authority in all its forms, from Hitler to traffic wardens and even his employers at the Daily Express. His admirers included Prince Charles, Frank Sinatra, Sir Malcolm Sargent and Tommy Cooper, and it was no surprise when he was voted Britain's best-loved cartoonist in 2000. Few people, however, realise that this likeable and humane satirist had been a war correspondent who witnessed the horrors of Belsen, where he found that the camp commandant, Josef Kramer, was also a great fan of his work Giles gave us a remarkable picture of a half-century of British life. He was also, as his editor John Gordon put it 'a spreader of happiness' and 'a genius ...... with the common touch'.
